Statement of Grading and Classroom Behavioral Policies

Grading Policy

In my class, I use the standard grading system for the Columbia Falls Junior High School:

A - 89.5% to 100%

B - 79.5% to 89.4%

C - 69.5% to 79.4%

D - 59.5% to 69.4%

F - 59.4% or below

Calculation of Grades:

60% - Daily Assignments

20% - Quizzes and Vocabulary Work

20% - Unit Summative Assessments

Late Daily-Work Policy:

Assignments given in class are always due the next day, unless otherwise directed. I allow a 5-day grace period (5 school days - 1 calendar week). Assignments turned in at the beginning of class the 5th day will not receive a grade penalty. However, beyond that time, I do not accept late work. Work not turned in by the beginning of class on the 5th day after it is assigned will be given a grade of 50%, F in the gradebook. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, that grade is final and cannot be changed. Homework corrections will not be considered for missing work.

Test Retake Policy:

Any test or quiz taken in class can be retaken. Our ultimate goal is that you learn - sometimes this means going back and fixing your mistakes - then demonstrating what you know again. Before you can retake a test, the following must happen: You must correct all mistakes on your previous test within 3 days of receiving your graded test. Your corrections must be done in writing, showing all work, on a clean, separate sheet of paper. The corrections must be stapled to the original test, and turned in to the appropriate basket. I will review your corrections - if approved, I will then schedule a retest for you. You will not take the same test as before, but a similar one. Test retakes must be done within 10 days of receiving your graded test.

Homework Correction policy:

Students are encouraged to make corrections to daily homework assignments. Students may receive full credit for corrected work, as long as all work or explanations are given to justify corrected answers. Corrections must be submitted within 2 days to receive additional credit.

Behavioral Expectations:

For general policies regarding behavior, please refer to the Columbia Falls Junior High Student Handbook

In my classroom, I hope to maintain an environment that is comfortable. The following is my developing list of requirements to make my class run smoothly:

  • Absolutely! - come to class prepared. Pencils, paper, notebook, and textbook are a daily requirement. Additional supplies include standard and metric ruler, compass and 180 degree protractor

  • Be respectful of me, and of one another.

  • Do not bring food or drink to class. There will be times I grant permission for a special occasion, but not often. Students are allowed to bring a water bottle to class daily.

Discipline Policy:

As our classes are only 45 minutes long, we cannot sacrifice our time in my class for discipline problems. We have a lot of work to do, and my students need to be respectful of me and of each other to accomplish our academic goals. To address discipline issues, I will be using the following system:

If a student is misbehaving in class:

  1. (1st offense) Student will be addressed, and asked to behave appropriately

  2. (2nd offense) Student may be removed from class to another teacher's room or the Pod area. If in the Pod area, I will speak to the student, and he/she may be able to return to class.

  3. If student continues to misbehave, he/she will be sent back to me if in another teacher's room; Discipline Notice will be filed, and student will be sent to the office.

  4. For SEVERE behavior (swearing, fighting, etc.) student will be removed from class, and sent to the office immediately
